Brandon Mably (Persian Poppy) workshop
What an amazing day! I have just spent the whole day at the Welsh Woollen Museum on a knitting workshop with Brandon Mably. We learned about colour combinations, new techniques for joining wool and a brilliant way of carrying your wool along the back of your work, he simply called ‘the technique’! I can’t believe how much I learned in one day. It completely lived up to my expectations, which is a rare thing! We made samples of the Kaffe Fassett poppy pattern using the chart that Brandon gave us. Each sample uses at least twelve colours and each one turned out completely different.
When we had finished our samples he showed us some examples of his and Kaffe’s work. This is a hat, gloves and legwarmers set designed and modelled by Brandon himself.
For some of the day Kaffe sat quietly at the back of the room with his needlepoint.
I was so excited he was there, I never expected to see him in REAL LIFE!!! I remember watching ‘through the keyhole’ on tv when I was a kid and seeing his amazing house, with all its colours and patterns. I had never seen anything like it and couldn’t believe my eyes. It must have been 30 years ago, but I still remember it vividly. What an inspiration.
